Celebrate Norfolk Day

with a cruise on a county treasure

To celebrate Norfolk Day, on Friday July 27, the North Walsham and Dilham Canal Trust is offering cruises along the county's only sailing canal with locks.

The trips, from Ebridge Millpond (NR28 9NH) to Spa Common, will include a commentary about the history and restoration of this unique Norfolk gem.

Disembarking, passengers will be able to take a short stroll to the beautifully-restored Bacton Wood lock where there will be the rare opportunity to walk into the top end and understand how a lock is operated, and to be dwarfed by the size of the gates and chamber.

On the return journey passengers can relax in the peace of the electrically-powered Ella II, and watch out for wildlife which could include marsh harriers, little egret, water voles and damselflies.

Ella II was launched by the trust in June, and its name commemorates The Ella, the last wherry to use the canal, in 1934.

Ella II can take up to 10 passengers and trips will run at

  •     10am
  •     noon
  •     2pm and
  •     4pm

To book (£7.50 per person) ring 07585 160 772

Our Norfolk Day event is manned by Volunteers with all funds

raised going toward the canal restoration
